International Roofing Expo (IRE) 2026: What It Is, Who Goes, and What's Missing

August 14, 2026

What Is the International Roofing Expo?

The International Roofing Expo, commonly known as IRE, is one of the largest annual trade shows in the roofing industry. Backed by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) and produced by Informa Markets, IRE typically runs in late winter or early spring and draws tens of thousands of attendees from across the country.

On paper, IRE sounds like the obvious event for any roofing professional to attend. It is big, it is well-established, and it has been running for decades. But if you are a roofing contractor trying to grow your business, it is worth asking a more specific question: is IRE actually built for you?

Who Attends IRE?

The IRE crowd is broad. You will find manufacturers showing off their latest product lines, distributors working the floor, association representatives, building material reps, and some contractors mixed in. The mix skews heavily toward the supply and distribution side of the industry.

That is not a knock on IRE. It is just the reality of what a trade show is. Trade shows exist to move product. They are built for manufacturers to reach buyers, not for contractors to learn how to close more deals, build better teams, or scale their operations.

What IRE Offers

IRE does deliver on a few things:

  • A massive trade show floor. Hundreds of manufacturers and suppliers under one roof. If you want to see what is new in roofing materials, tools, and technology, IRE is a solid place to do it.
  • Some education sessions. IRE includes a conference program with workshops and panels covering installation techniques, code updates, and industry trends.
  • Networking with vendors. If you need to build relationships with suppliers or distributors, the trade show floor gives you access.

If your goal is sourcing products, evaluating new materials, or staying current on technical standards, IRE checks those boxes.

What IRE Is Missing

Here is where it gets honest. For the roofing contractor who is trying to grow a company, IRE leaves a lot on the table.

No Real Business Growth Content

Walking a trade show floor does not teach you how to recruit top sales reps, build a repeatable sales process, manage cash flow during rapid growth, or develop the leadership skills to lead a team of 50. IRE's education sessions are useful but they are not designed to transform how you run your business.

Sales Training Is an Afterthought

Roofing sales is one of the most skill-intensive parts of the business. The best contractors are investing heavily in their sales teams. IRE does not offer the kind of high-level sales content that moves the needle for a company trying to scale from $2M to $10M or beyond.

Contractor-to-Contractor Networking Is Limited

The most valuable conversations at any event are peer-to-peer. Talking to another owner who scaled past the same problems you are facing right now is worth more than any vendor pitch. IRE's format does not prioritize that kind of connection. You are more likely to spend your time talking to product reps than to fellow owners who can share what actually worked.

Speaker Lineups That Do Not Move the Needle

IRE's education stage features industry professionals and association panel members. That is fine for technical updates. It is not what you need if you want to leave an event fired up, thinking differently, and with a clear plan to execute on. The speakers who can do that are not typically found at trade shows.

The Energy Is Trade Show Energy

Anyone who has walked a trade show floor for two days knows the feeling. You collect a bag of branded pens, eat a hot dog at a vendor booth, shake a lot of hands, and fly home wondering what you actually got out of it. Trade show culture and conference culture are different things. One is transactional. The other builds momentum.

What RoofCON Fills In

RoofCON is the roofing conference built specifically for the gap IRE leaves open. It is not a trade show. It is a business growth event designed for roofing contractors, sales reps, and operators who are serious about leveling up.

RoofCON 2026 takes place November 10-12 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. The speaker lineup includes Tim Tebow, Ed Mylett, John Maxwell, Kevin Harrington, Tom Bilyeu, Jesse Itzler, Craig Groeschel, Sam Taggart, and Hunter Ballew. These are not panel moderators. These are people who have built something and can tell you exactly how they did it.

RoofCON brings together 5,000-plus attendees, 250-plus exhibitors, and three days of content designed to change how you run your business. General admission is free. That is not a typo.

If you go to IRE for the trade show floor, that makes sense. But if you are looking for the event that will actually help you grow your roofing company, the answer is RoofCON.
